Prayers - Through the Saints

Breathe in me, Holy Spirit,
that all my thoughts may be holy.
Act in me, Holy Spirit,
that my work too may be holy.
Draw my heart, Holy Spirit,
that I may love only what is holy.
Strenghten me, Holy Spirit,
to defend all that is holy.
Guard me, Holy Spirit,
that I may always be holy.

-- St. Augustine

Dear Saint Therese,
Little Flower of Carmel
child of God and friend of soldiers
defend our homeland as you did your own.

Be ever-present to those who serve. I
ntercede for us that wicked plans may be defeated.
May peace, mercy, justice and forgiveness
reign in all hearts, beginning with my own.

Angel of the Trenches,
watch over and guide those
whom God has called to honorably serve in the military
especially those within my family, community, parish, and friends.

Lead us all victoriously home. Amen.

(Feast Day: Sept. 10): Heavenly Father, in imitation of Christ your son our Lord, St. Nicholas of Tolentino miraculously calmed the raging oceans and saved a shipboard crew from being lost at sea. Through his intercession, grant protection of all those serving in the sea services. May their hope be firmly anchored in the promises of Christ, and may they always seek and find the Light of Christ, their true compass and guide. (original) -- Judy L. McCloskey

O St. Therese, Little Flower of Jesus,
named by the Church as the Patroness of Aviators, pray for us.
You did say "I will spend my heaven in doing good on earth
and after death I will let fall a shower of roses."

These roses, as so many favors for thy clients,
you waft through the skies to descend gently upon those devoted to you.

From your bright throne in heaven,
turn your eyes kindly toward us, that we,
who fly like birds through God's firmament,
may ever enjoy your intercession
and secure the grace we yearn for so ardently to strengthen us in life,
defend us at the hour of death
and lead us to a happy eternity. Amen

Lord God, Father of all,
you granted St. Joseph of Cupertino
a humble awareness of his limitations
of his inability to possess knowledge
save that which You revealed to him
through the glory of your creation
and the mysteries of our redemption.

You blessed this saint with love
and gifted him wth ecstacies, levitations, and miracles.
Through his intercession
may we too rise above the things of this world
and be lead to the higher ground
where angels and saints praise You
for all eternity, in our true homeland.

St. Joseph of Cupertino
patron saint of paratroopers, aviators, and airborne services
pray for us! Amen.

Failed Mission

I believe that the current effort to bleach out God from our public life will ultimately fail for a number of reasons. First, the secular view of life being imposed on our diverse pluralistic society does not reflect the reality of a nation made up almost entirely of people of faith. The recently espoused and increasingly imposed secular view of separation of God from public life does all of us a disservice because it is not reflective of the actual situation in which people live and institutions thrive.
