Pompeo Speaks to WH, Recommends MOH for Fr. Kapuan

20April2012: The national debate about whether to award Father Emil Kapaun the Medal of Honor has now reached the White House, though so far only in a preliminary meeting. Rep. Mike Pompeo, R-Wichita, asked to talk to President Obama’s White House staff this week so that he could help make the case that the Korean War chaplain from Kansas should be awarded the nation’s highest military honor for acts he performed while starving to death in a North Korean prison camp more than 60 years ago.

WTC Cross Still Consoles

New York City, NY, 11Sept11 (CNA).- Editor's Note: This story was originally published on July 29, 2011 and it being republished in honor of the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
    
The World Trade Center cross is still a "sign of comfort" to many people, says the Franciscan priest who describes himself as its "unofficial guardian." On Sept. 13, 2001 construction worker Frank Silecchia found a 20-foot, cross-shaped T-beam from World Trade Center 1 standing almost upright in the wreckage of World Trade Center 6. Fr. Brian Jordan, O.F.M., blessed the cross later that year on Oct. 4 and promised that it would be preserved.

C6F Honors Fallen MOH Chaplain Capodanno

GAETA, Italy – Vice Adm. Harry B. Harris Jr., commander, U.S. 6th Fleet, honored fallen Medal of Honor recipient Lt. Vincent Capodanno, a Navy chaplain, at a wreath-laying ceremony in Gaeta, Italy, Sept. 3. Harris represented U.S. 6th Fleet to honor Capodanno at Piazza Capodanno, a memorial that pays tribute to this fallen hero.

Division Soldiers Honored at Adirondacks

FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Veterans, soldiers, families and friends of the 10th Mountain Division (Light) assembled at the base of Whiteface Mountain on a warm bright day, Aug. 3, for an annual memorial ceremony held to honor division soldiers, past and present, who gave their lives for freedom. As the ceremony began, community members sat quietly, eager to hear from William Morrison – a soldier who stood in formation on the day the division was officially stood up.

911 Flag Arrives at WYD, Spain

Madrid, Spain, 16Aug2011 (CNA/EWTN News)- A U.S. flag that has appeared at every World Youth Day over the past decade in remembrance of 9/11 victims has arrived in Madrid. The flag originally belonged to the family of a young Catholic woman from Brooklyn who was killed in the 2001 terror attack on the World Trade Center.
