American Democracy

We have not established democracy in America; we are only in the process of establishing it. It is not something that is got by cosmic necessity, like the spurting of an oil well, whose riches we can sit by and contemplate; it is to be won daily, as man wins freedom through the pursuit of truth and goodness.
