This war can become for us an occasion for a national resurrection. I see no reason to be depressed because of it, unless one has no faith and no God. Then indeed are you miserable. But if you believe in God then the tragedy of war can become what the tragedy of the cross was to Him- the means of salvation. It is when the world looks blackest that we are closest to our triumph. After picturing wars, rumors of wars, and earthquakes, Our Lord said: "Lift up your heads, because your redemption is at hand" (Luke 21:38). Redemption often comes through catastrophe.

Failed Mission

I believe that the current effort to bleach out God from our public life will ultimately fail for a number of reasons. First, the secular view of life being imposed on our diverse pluralistic society does not reflect the reality of a nation made up almost entirely of people of faith. The recently espoused and increasingly imposed secular view of separation of God from public life does all of us a disservice because it is not reflective of the actual situation in which people live and institutions thrive.
